On Monday, 20th June 2022, His Excellency Uhuru Kenyatta, President of the Republic of Kenya, led the third conclave summit of the East African Community Heads of State on the peace and security situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The summit was attended by the Heads of the States of Rwanda, Uganda, DRC, Kenya, Burundi, South Sudan, and the High Commissioner of Tanzania to Kenya.
The summit was about restoring peace in DRC following its provocations and false allegations against Rwanda. The summit concluded that DRC should stop all offensive language, hate speeches inciting genocide against Rwanda, and all other violations and killings that have been going on.
This should be a straight message to DRC, and it must abide by these orders, and most especially, its government officials must cease all threats of genocide and other politically inciting languages. The people of DRC must also stop harassing, abusing, and killing Kinyarwanda-speaking, Tutsi citizens of that country.
Killing its own people, or inflicting hate crimes on them just because of their ethnicity, will not solve any of DRC’s problems, but instead add to them.
